Unidentified Publisher Warning Dialog When Attempting to Uninstall, Upgrade GoldSim on Windows Vista

Issue

When you remove or upgrade GoldSim in Windows Vista, you may receive the following notification message in the standard Windows Vista User Account Control dialog box: An unidentified program wants to access your computer.

Resolution

To work around this issue, click Allow in the User Account Control dialog box to let the uninstall or upgrade operation continue. Note: This problem is unique to Windows Vista; it does not occur on XP. It is a known problem with the standard Microsoft installer technology, so that it occurs with other programs besides GoldSim, including Microsoft's own applications. The problem is due to the fact that Vista compacts certain of an application's installer files in order to save disk space, and this compacting causes the digital signing mechanism of the files to break. A general fix to the problem is expected in a future version of Vista.
