River Flow and Contaminant Mass Balance
Model Description
The purpose of this model is to demonstrate the mass balance caluclations of a simple flow network. The mass balance accounts for flow rates, contaminant concentrations, and annual mass loading at each node.
The contaminant concentrations are assumed to be innate and will not decay or react over time. This type of model could be used for a constituant such as salinity.
This model is used to determine the effect of variations on river diversion amounts on the total annual contaminant load in the river. A multi-variate result plot in the Results container provides a comparison plot to describe this relationship. This type of model could be used as decision support in sizing a new river diversion with water quality criteria in the river.
