Reliability Module Preview

The GoldSim development team has been hard at work on a new GoldSim module, the Reliability Module. This module will allow users to simulate risk and reliability of complex engineered systems. Typical applications might be the design of new products, chemical plants or factories, or the analysis of space or military missions.

At the heart of the Reliability Module are a new Function element and Action element. Function elements represent components or subsystems that provide an ongoing service to the system, such as a power supply. Action elements represent components that perform specific actions on demand, such as a workstation in a factory, or the starter on an automobile.

The Reliability Module elements can simulate the failure modes that affect components, along with repair times and costs. More complex systems involving redundant components, or systems made up of subsystems, are easily represented. All of this comes together in GoldSim's probabilistic framework, so that users can not only study the reliability of their systems, but also understand the variability and real-world performance that they can expect.
