A Simple Simulation of Adoption and Diffusion of Technology
This model provides a simple example of simulating the adoption or diffusion of new technology, ideas, or products by a population. A logistic growth model/curve is employed to simulate the adoption or diffusion of the new idea or technology. The size of the final population of adopters is identified as a model input as well as the size of the initial population of adopters. A rapid initial increase in the rate of adoption is followed by slowing adoption rate and then a rapidly declining rate of adoption as the population of adopters approaches the preset boundary. This behavior leads to an S-shaped graph of the total numbers of adopters over time.
