Simulate a Detention Pond with Simple Outlet


This model simulates a simple stormwater detention pond with a simple discharge structure. The discharge is controlled by a square orifice in the side of a metal riser as shown in the image in the model file. It is assumed that the flow through the orifice controls the flow and that the outlet conduit pipe is sufficently large to not cause any backwater effects into the riser.

GoldSim is used to simulate the accumulation of water in the pond (using a Reservoir) and calculate the resulting water depth using a stage - area relationship. GoldSim can perform an inverse integral lookup on this table as well, which will allow you to estimate the elevation given the simulated volume. The resulting depth is used to calculate the orifice or weir flow, depending on which is controlling.
