Simulate the Operations of a Reservoir with a Spillway

Description

This reservoir provides water deliveries to a single water demand input. Browse into the "Reservoir" container to see the logic for this model. To use this model, simply copy and paste the "Reservoir" container into your model. You will be asked to link up the following inputs:

  • Inflows
  • Climate
  • Water demand requests

This reservoir provides water deliveries to a single water demand input and is constrained by the specified inflow and the capacity of the reservoir. If the volume reaches capacity, then water spills over a spillway, which is simulated either as weir flow or using a rating curve lookup table. Volume is calculated by conservation of mass for each time step. There are no reservoir routing calculations. There are no operating pools in this reservoir except for a freeboard above the spillway.

The spillway has 2 operating modes to choose from: rating curve or weir flow. The model allows you to compare the expected flow rate from the 2 methods.
