Model Library

Viewing GoldSim Elements by Type: The browser displays your model in a tree structure in two different views, which greatly facilitates navigation of complex models.  The default view is Containment View, where elements are arranged hierarchically by Containers.  An alternative view is Class View, in which the elements are organized by element type. This provides a convenient way to find and/or edit all elements of a particular type.  You can toggle between these alternative views using the tabs at the bottom of the browser.

The GoldSim Model Library allows GoldSim users to build on the experience and knowledge of others by sharing models. The Library is available from within the GoldSim Resource Center (GRC).

New models that have recently been added include:

Model 66: Modeling Activating/Deactivating Pumps Based on Desired Flow Rates. This model illustrates how reliability elements can be used to model throughput in a pumping facility.   Pumps are turned on and off as the desired flow rate changes and pumps fail/are repaired.

Model 67: Sampling a Continuous Loop of Historic Time Series Data. This model illustrates how a year of historical data can be randomly sampled by GoldSim and used as input to your simulation.

Model 68: Simple Simulation of the Salmon Life Cycle. This is a simple model that simulates the life cycle of a salmon population as it migrates from the stream, to the ocean, and back to the stream.

Model 69: Simulation of Water Treatment for Acid Mine Drainage. The model simulates some of the major chemical processes that occur in a water treatment plant designed to neutralize and remove metals from an influent water typical of acid mine drainage.

Model 70: Calculating Solubility Using Equilibrium Chemistry. This model demonstrates an approach for calculating the solubility of an element based on equilibrium chemistry.

If you have a model that you think would be worth posting to the library, please send it, along with a description, to support@goldsim.com.

2007 GoldSim User Conference and Training Seminar in San Francisco, October 23-26

The GoldSim's User Conference is rapidly approaching. If you intend to register, this is your final opportunity. The conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 25-26 in San Francisco, California.  Just prior to the conference, we will offer two concurrent training seminars: Basic GoldSim Modeling on October 23-24, and Advanced GoldSim Modeling on October 24. The conference is a terrific opportunity to increase your knowledge of GoldSim, ask questions directly to GoldSim developers, and network with other GoldSim users.

ClickHere

for conference information.

The agenda for the conference includes sessions to improve your GoldSim skills, presentation of a number of papers from our most experienced and knowledgeable users, a poster session so you can see how other users apply GoldSim, and a model contest so you can show off your GoldSim skills. We will also be featuring a group modeling exercise this year that promises to be both fun and highly educational. (The agenda can be viewed here). As always, we have scheduled several social events in the evenings so that you can enjoy the sights of one of the world's most vibrant cities while networking with fellow GoldSim users.

Modeling Insurance Risks in an Uncertain World

Today's insurance and reinsurance transactions occur in an increasingly complex, international, and interdependent environment. Globalization has introduced additional variables, complexities, and competition, requiring insurers and reinsurers to more carefully calculate the risk they accept and the prices they charge.  Many of the modeling tools on the market today are simply not powerful or intuitive enough for even the most sophisticated risk managers to accurately calculate pricing, analyze reserves, and model the effects of these dependencies. Join GoldSim on Tuesday, Oct 16th, 11 AM PDT (2 PM EDT, -7 hours GMT) for the webinar, Modeling Insurance Risks in an Uncertain World.  This webinar will demonstrate how GoldSim can be used to quantify the risks and uncertainties associated with today's insurance and reinsurance models, improve your risk management processes, and ultimately help you make better decisions in an uncertain world.

Sign up for the upcoming webinar.

Interview with René Kahnt of G.E.O.S.

G.E.O.S. Freiberg Ingeniergesellschaft mbH is an international German consultancy working in the areas of geology, geotechnics, management consulting, hydro-technical engineering, water supply and ecology. Special services are provided in the fields of microbiological technologies, treatment technologies for mine effluents, process modelling and optimisation of large scale remediation projects.

René Kahnt is the head of the Water-Energy-Biotechnology department at G.E.O.S, and is a very experienced GoldSim modeler. René earned a Ph.D. and specialized in theoretical solid state physics at TU Chemnitz (Chemnitz University of Technology). In 1994, René began to work for Wismut, the Eastern German Uranium Mining remediation project. There he was responsible for environmental modelling and decision analysis. The focus of his work was contaminant release and transport from tailings facilities, flooded underground mines, and waste rock piles. While at Wismut, René started to work with the precursors to GoldSim (RIP and STRIP), and in the late 1990s was one of first serious users of GoldSim. René joined G.E.O.S. in January 2006. René took some time to chat with us about GoldSim, modeling and consulting.
