2008 GoldSim Service Pack 4 Released
GoldSim 9.60 SP4 (Service Pack 4) was released on Feb 1, 2008. Version 9.60 SP4 includes some minor feature enhancements and a number of bug corrections. All reported bugs were corrected, except some minor user interface issues. Specific items that were modified include:
The CT Module's Network Pathway element was modified to support up to 999 watch groups for monitoring internal flux rates.
The Function-of and Affects browsers that let users follow the chain of logic through a model have been modified to allow tracing logic into and through SubModel elements.
Corrected a problem with the Time Series element that could cause it to compute incorrect 'Average value over timestep' when extremely short timesteps occurred.
Corrected a problem in SP3 where an invalid input to an Allocator element would cause a crash while editing the model.
Corrected a problem in computing sensitivity analysis coefficients for very large matrices (due to roundoff). Also corrected a problem where sensitivity analysis results were not updated after changing the input selections.

We have started producing videos explaining elements, their attributes and examples of their usage. These five minute videos provide a quick way to get started with a particular element and learn how it can be used in your models.

GoldSim Reliability Webinar
We invite you to an Introduction to the Reliability Module
webinar on March 6, 2008 at 8:30 AM PST (-8 hours GMT). Andrew Burns will discuss the basic features of the Reliability elements and show how they can be used to simplify modeling of system states in your GoldSim models. This webinar is a great way to see how you might take advantage of the Reliability Learning Edition (included with GoldSim Pro) in your own models.

Free GoldSim Reliability Elements
Did you know that all GoldSim versions provide access to the Reliability Learning Edition, allowing you to use up to ten Reliability elements? The Reliability Module (RL)
allows you to probabilistically simulate and analyze the reliability and performance of complex engineered systems over time. For example, with RL, you can predict the reliability of a new mine conveyor system, evaluate the safety of a proposed space station, or determine the fault tolerance of a new network topology. You can access RL elements simply by creating a new model. For further examples, you can download RL models from the GoldSim Resource Center.
GoldSim Training Schedule
We will be holding open training sessions in our offices in Issaquah (Seattle) Washington on the following dates:
- April 22-23rd
- August 5-6th
The sessions will provide an introduction to GoldSim, and can serve as either a basic training for new users, or a refresher course for existing users. The focus will be quite generic (as there will likely be attendees from multiple arenas).
The cost for these two-day training sessions is $1000 ($500 for academic users). The sessions will include breakfast and lunch. You must bring your own laptop (temporary training licenses will be provided).

Interview with Alvaro Buoro of Equinocio
Equinocio is a French consultancy providing numerical simulation services to support a better understanding of dynamic systems in environmental science, management and business. GoldSim is the primary software used by Equinocio. Alvaro Buoro
is the founder of the company. He created Equinocio four years ago to explore new ways of proposing solutions to complex problems. GoldSim is the primary software used by Equinocio.

Using the Status Element to Track Boolean State Variables
Most real-world models involve tracking the status of various aspects of a system that are Boolean; that is, always in one of two possible states or conditions. GoldSim provides a powerful element to easily facilitate this - the Status element. Status elements allow you to monitor the status of something that is changed instantaneously (i.e., is triggered) by events.
