Taking Advantage of Tooltips in Expression Fields: Tooltips have undergone a number of changes in Version 10 to make creating and debugging expressions easier.   Instead of turning the whole expression red, GoldSim will show the first error it encounters in red text and pop up an explanatory tooltip.  If you click a reference to another element’s output in an input field, GoldSim will display the current value of that output.

The GoldSim Knowledge Base contains articles addressing frequently asked questions, workarounds for known problems, and advice on applying GoldSim. The Knowledge Base is available from within the GoldSim Resource Center (GRC).

We encourage you to visit the Knowledge Base, as even expert users are likely to find useful information there.

The GoldSim Model Library allows GoldSim users to build on the experience and knowledge of others by sharing models. The Library is available from within the GoldSim Resource Center (GRC).

New models that have recently been added include:

Model 74: Temperature Modeling of Circuit Boards. This model simulates temperature change of a circuit board exposed to hot air using upstream parabolic interpolation.

Model 75:  Modeling the Economic, Environmental and Safety Impacts of Highway Access Control.   This package of models allows the user to adjust driveway spacing, implement different driveway consolidation strategies and install medians on three highway segments in the Las Vegas area and view the effect of those changes over time on road safety, economic activity and carbon emissions.

If you have a model that you think would be worth posting to the library, please send it, along with a description, to

GoldSim Version 10 Released

Version 10 is finally here!  The new version represents a substantial update to almost every aspect of GoldSim.  Some changes will be apparent and include:

*       A completely redesigned Dashboard Authoring Module, with a number of new controls (e.g., grid controls, combo boxes) and enhancements to existing controls.

*       A large number of performance improvements, which will be particularly noticeable when editing and manipulating large models.

*       Enhanced tool-tips and a new expression editor.

*       Improvements to Microsoft Excel linkages, including support for Office 2007.

*       Stair-step interpolation option for look-up tables.

*       Enhancements to Stochastic elements, including new distributions and enhanced sampling algorithms.

*       Event importance sampling to facilitate representation of low probability, high consequence events and failures.

*       New array manipulation functions.

*       Enhancements to conditional Containers to better support project simulation.

*       Support for 64-bit operating systems.

*       Contaminant Tranport Module enhancements, including new features to support simulation of diffusion through partially saturated porous media..

*       Reliability Module enhancements, including the ability to simulate non-fatal and coupled failure modes.

*       Performance improvements to the Distributed Processing Module.

*       The ability to password protect a model file.

There are also many less visible changes to enhance the stability and performance of GoldSim and lay the framework for further changes in subsequent versions.

A complete list of changes can be found in the Summary Document.

All current members of the GoldSim Subscription Program can download the Version 10 installation file from the GoldSim Resource Center (GRC).

GoldSim Conference

2009 GoldSim User Conference and Training in Seattle, June 22-24

We are pleased to announce that the 2009 GoldSim User Conference will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 23-24, 2009 in Seattle, Washington.   Prior to the conference, on June 22, we will offer an optional one-day Basic GoldSim / Refresher training workshop. This workshop will be of interest to both new users and existing users who want to quickly refresh their skills.  The conference is a terrific opportunity to increase your knowledge of GoldSim, meet the GoldSim staff, and network with other GoldSim users.

As always, we have scheduled several social events in the evenings so that you can enjoy the sights of Seattle while networking with fellow GoldSim users.

Conference details are currently available on our website.

Demystifying Triggering

Almost every GoldSim model uses triggering, but what lurks under the More button? This article and accompanying GRC model explores some of the lesser-known features that the modeler can use to represent complex triggering logic in their models.
