This model supported a technical and financial feasibility assessment for developing a new water supply system for a city. The major uncertainties addressed included system capacity, water quality, and construction costs.
The model simulated the initial installation and field test of system capacity along with the decision of whether a system upgrade was required. The model also simulated the process of installing and testing pumps to see whether a low-quality water interceptor would be required during its 20-year operational life. A financial model tracked capital costs and depreciation, and operating income and expenses for the system.
