GoldSim Webinars
We offer free, monthly webinars to present GoldSim features and applications. Upcoming webinars are listed below. If you would like to be placed on our Webinar Mailing List to be reminded every month of the upcoming webinar, contact us.
All webinars are recorded (and posted to the site within a day or two), and these provide an excellent resource for learning about GoldSim features and applications.
Materials and video recordings of past webinars are available on our Webinar Archive Page.
Next Webinar: Modeling Water Rights in Storage Systems
Presented by: Jason Lillywhite, P.E.
Join me for a webinar where I’ll demonstrate how to simulate complex water rights in shared reservoir systems using GoldSim. The focus will be on modeling the allocation and management of water storage rights, tracking ownership, and delivering water based on legal entitlements. While the model includes supporting hydrologic processes, the primary goal is to show how these rights-based rules can be implemented within a dynamic simulation framework.
The model incorporates the following components, which support the simulation of water rights in shared storage systems:
- Hydrological models easily integrated within GoldSim (brief overview)
- Water demands (brief mention of a couple methods)
- Water rights policies (dynamic priorities, annual volume allotments)
- Inflow constraints (hydraulic, environmental, streamflow water rights)
- Overview of common operational rules (drawdown limits, flood control, environmental flows)
- Discrete water right transfers (i.e., paper water exchanges) within shared storage accounts
I’ll also briefly demonstrate a real-world example from a project I worked on for a large stakeholder group, which involved an iterative allocation process for both supply and demand.
While I don’t specialize in water rights, I’ve encountered these challenges in several projects and developed modeling strategies that may be useful to others working in similar contexts. My goal is to share what I’ve learned and offer practical tools that can help you build more flexible and transparent models. The modeling approaches demonstrated are consistent with practices used in tools like WRAP and RiverWare, and reflect common strategies for simulating water rights in reservoir systems.
